I am trying to figure out what to do about this particular problem. I belive it is brown algea. Some say to cut back on the food, light, and add some soft coral. Is this good advice here is a picture of the tank. all measurements of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are non existent (unless I did something wrong.

Your tank is cycling. Cut back on everything you may be rushing a bit. Throw in a clean up crew some snails would be great

Temp is 78 F, PH 8.2, Alk 2.6, Nitrate 0, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Tank light on 6 hrs a day. No corals in tank, 1 blue damsel, 5 turbo snails. I am assuming cycling is a good thing just looks kinda dingie. Thanks by the way :)

I cutback on lighting rather than 10-12 hours a day, I went 6-8. Usually the hours when I'm back home to observe the tank. Plus the picture itself wasn't really detailed on where it was located? Was it in an area with no water flow? I also put a stronger powerhead to get a better waterflow too. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, clean up crew too....

Tanks for all your help. I m sure somthings gonna work. What percentatge of a water change do you suggest?
On a nano, anywhere from 20%-50% is good... try to match the temp/pH of the new water to the tank temp/pH as best as possible. If you havent done so yet, you would greatly benefit from a 90% or so water change... it may sound drastic but it will get ALL the water from the cycle out and allow the bacteria on the rock/sand to start doing the best job possible.
