I've been pondering the idea of having a saltwater tank for a long time, and I think I am finally ready to get started. Can anyone recommend a good tank for beginners? Right now i'm thinking about the 12g deluxe nano cube...

also, where can I find some good reading materials so I know exactly what i'm doing when the time comes...

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Welcome aboard.....

Lot depends on what you want to keep and how much you want to spend. You looking to keep just fish or just soft corals or maybe a mix of both. Tell us a little bit about what your vision of a saltwater tank would be. There are plenty of great people who will help, walk you through it.

Hello and welcome to nanotank. Like Dickie said, it really depends on your budget (or lack thereof) and what you want to keep. Use the search engine on this site or search through this forum and you will find previous suggestions as well.

yeah, I think mostly soft corals and maybe a fish or two?... I definately dont want to get into more than I can handle to start off. As for budget, of course, i'm not looking for anything too extravagant... just a little something for me to start learning with. :)

I have both a 6 and a 12 DX nanocube and both are user friendly IMO. You could also start out with a standard 10 gallon tank and build your own system from scratch. If you are looking for a good book on reeftanks I would go with "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Bob Fenner or "Natural Reef Aquariums" by John Tullock, both are very good books loaded with information. You can also probably get the answers to most of your questions right here by using the search feature.

I ordered a 12g deluxe nano... so i'll have that soon! I probably wont be able to buy LS/LR, etc until next payday. I took marine biology in high school, but I dont remember any of it... so i'm sure i'll be coming to this board alot for advice. :)
