Three teeny tiny Pom Pom Crabs. My LFS was able to get some in. They are so cute and so little. I saw them tonight. And they have anenomes in their claws!! I am setting them up in their own 10g. nanoreef that I have cycled and held for them, with LS, a few LR, and soft corals. I'll add a couple of quiet fish that won't pester them. It's recommended that they go into a quiet species tanks where they can be pampered and protected. They really are small, and so cute!!

I pick them up tomorrow. Can't wait!!

Here's a great page with info on Pom Pom Crabs:

And here's a pic of one (although they really don't have such a bright coloration -- they are more a pale salmon color):

Sadielynn, I will post pics as soon as I get them settled in.

Do you guys think they (the Pom Pom Crabs) would habitate peacefully and easily with sexy shrimp, which don't seem to grow more than 1 inch in length -- pertty much the same size that the Pom Poms will grow to? I think it would be cool to have a tank of very small, yet very interesting specimens. Sort of a "mini-size entertainment tank" 24/7.

i've heard of them being together. and i think that would be a good idea. and maybe even a porcelain crab or two as well.

I have them, and they're in my tank. One is visible -- the larger of the three. The other two have vamoosed deep inside rock, where I'm sure they'll stay for most of the time. I'll watch for opportunities to take pics. They are so cute, and all three of them have pom poms.

They should be fine with sexy shrimp.

You'll likely see the sexys a whole lot more than the pom-poms. They tend to be pretty shy.

Probably. They're very shy though, so you'll probably see the emerald more.

I wouldn't put a large emerald in with them, just becasue I wouldn't want the emerald to bother it.

April: Thanks for the pic and post about the pom pom... just yesterday I went to get some Catalina water and when I looked around, I saw they had one pom pom crab and one Anemone shrimp left. I picked both of them up and are my two new additions to my 6 gallon.

I tell you at first, ol pom pom was putting up his dukes against my female clownfish and the redheaded goby. They did at the end leave him alone. Especially when I fed the tank to distract them :) The anemone shrimp wandered all around and found it happy hanging around the pulsating xenia.

So far the pom pom has been within view the entire day, and also this morning. Cool addition. Hope yours is cool. Laterz.

Hey April:

How are you pom pom crabs doing? As for mine, it died two days ago. :( I saw snails snacking on him. My anemone shrimp died yesterday and in a brutal way. Somehow I must have gotten starved guys I'm thinking. Since owning them, I couldn't get them to eat, so they got weaker and died. I saw the anemone shrimp very weak yesterday, and sometimes the current would take him. Once the others in my tank saw he was dying, it was like a signal for everybody to attack it. My female black clown attacked it, then a hermit tried to grab it, then it landed on the frogspawn, from there, believe it or not, the 2 sexy shrimps went to town tearing it open and cutting off it's tail. When more of it's injury opened like that, it made everything then bite into it to finish it off. The clowns bit it some more, the gobies attacked it, and then lastly the snails came out to finish the the poor anemone shrimp off. It was kinda sucky to see all of that, but that was nature in full effect :(.

My pom pom got along just fine with my 2 sexy shrimp - well, except he might be dead now (or molted - not sure yet). The shrimp have yet to even bother his upside down body (or molt as the case may be) . . .
