good first invert

My tank is done cycling and I am going to slowly add a few snails and hermits over the next couple weeks. Can I start adding some mushroom polyps or some zoanthids yet?

How long has the tank been running? You could probably get away with it if your tank has "cycled" but the longer you hold off, the better. As long as your water parameters are stable, and where they should be, you'll be fine. Zoo's or 'shroom's dont add much bio-load.

The tank has been running for 3 weeks now. I started off with sand from an established system and cured rock. I didn't test anything but the PH and salinity for the first few days because I thought it would take at least that long to see some measurable ammonia and nitrites. Since then, I have never registered any ammonia or nitrite and nitrate levels are only now beginning to climb. Is this short of a cycle possible?
I am beginning to see a small diatom bloom but the snails are taking care of it so far.

It is possible, due to your use of already aged substrate and rock. I think you would be okay to add a few small frags. I would definitely add load slowly, so that your tank can keep up until its had a little more time to establish appropriate levels of small reef llife and bacteria.
