fraggin

OK I want to move the little guy on the left to a different rock. I have "Zap gel". What are the best ways to go about this? I've heard scrape of with a razor blade or chisel the rock so I'm a little insecure. will it die if I just cut it off at the base?

Thanks for the advice. This is really my first time so try and be thorough because I tend to take things very literally.

Xenia are fine no matter how you cut it. Chop it off as close to the base as possible. The problem is that glue of any kind wont hold xenia because of the mucus they excrete. You can rubberband it to a piece of rubble, or use needle and fishing line to secure it to the rubble or plug.

Dont be nervous. Its pretty tough to kill xenia! You may want to give it a couple more weeks to mature a little bit though before you cut it.

Well that is interesting about the glue not working because of their secretions. If you remember the last time I tried this with the free little piece I got from Coral Oasis it didn't work at all. I'll give the rubber band and the toothpick thing a try again. At least this one has some branching which should help a lot. I think your right though I will wait for it to mature a little more.

Thanks. I was really hoping the glue would work. dang it.

yeah xenia will grow like a weed and before long you will have another piece that doesn't look like a frag. I fragged mine a few weeks ago and both pieces are now bigger than the piece that i bought from my lfs. Too bad most other coral doesn't grow this fast.

Try to get the rubber band tight enough to hold it to the new rock while keeping it loose enough not to slice through the xenia. Thats the problem I had when I first tried it. They are corret...if xenia is living in your tank...you probably couldn't get rid of it if ya wanted to...its tough once established..

Take a double shot gladd with rubble on the bottom. Stick the frag in there an within a week it should attach. I have 100% success unless the frag dies... I generally put it near some flow put not too much that its getting rattled back and fourth. Hope this may help.
