Are you going to use it on a nanocube? If so, I would say go for it...it is better than no skimmer. But if you are using it ona standard glass tank, go with a bak pak 2r or an aqua-c remora...both very good skimmers.

I bought it at the LFS for $50. After the purchase I found it online for $24. Dooh! I'm using it with an nano 24. It fits nicely in the filter compartment. However, its kind of delicate (the attachment brace cracked). The resevoir that catches the protein is not very big. Currently it fills up in about 3 hours. I'm hoping as I use it more it will take longer to fill. I have a feeling it may have been designed more for 12g size tanks, but it seems to work well. It also puts a lot of air back in the tank, which is good and bad (can you say salt creep?)

I bought one and returned as soon as I saw the construction. Guess I'm a bit of a snob. Oh well. If I remember correctly though it had a place to put a drain tube so you could have it drain into a plastic bottle. I'd rather fork over the extra and get the better skimmer. Or better yet I choose to do weekly water changes, much cheaper :)

I agree that you get what you pay for but in this case the Fission is "the only candy store in town". Its a good thing nutrient levels can be controlled through not overfeeding and water changes.

I agree there's currently not much to choose from for your nano tank in regards to protein skimmers . The fission is the only model that fits in you sump. It's important to me to keep the original attractive look of the JBJ nano tank and not have to have exessive electrical wires, filter tubes, and hang on filters outside of the tank.

I think the drain tube is actually the air intake for the skimmer. Anyway's it does a good job of skimming my 24, even though its delicate. I've had it setup about a day and my coral already looks better. I checked PH and there has been no drop in 24 hours. My tank's PH has been a steady 8.0 for a long time, but I will test it every day for a few days. Also, the skimmer's collection tank is not filling as quickly as it did the first 24 hours, which is a good thing. I think it captured a lot of protein the first day it was on.
