I have a 24 gal. aquapod and i came home yesterday to a problem. my diamond goby had fallen over the edge into the filter and completely stopped the filter. Lost 2 cleaner shrimp. I feel that this is a poor design and was looking for a way to resolve this issue.

cut a piece of acrylic with teeth like a comb? Might help. I'm not familiar with the aquapods. Maybe a picture of the problem area?

perhaps a piece of foam filter pad cut to prevent the jumping goby
did the goby jam the impeller ? what caused it to stop ?

Yes. The Goby was jamed into the impeller and the pump didn't run for about 18 hours. Could I just use some sponge and cut it to fit into the holes?

Yeah just make sure to make two or more sponges so you can switch it out every couple of days to clean the sponge. At least that's my opinion.

what about some plastic mesh that you use to keep junk out of rain gutters? Thats what i use to keep my fish going for a trip to Raging Waters. Then you would have less detritus build-up and possibly less nitrates than a sponge.
