Fish in a 12 Gal

it all depends on what kind of fish you want to keep........and what other stuff you want to keep in the tank..

The tank will have coral on live rock and I was thinking of one wrasse, goby and one clown.

But seriously their are hundreds if not thousands still to choose from in thase catagories you still need to be more specific. suggestions - maybe a watchman goby of some type, a tank breed perc or ocellaris clown, and possibly a six lined wrasse or royal gramma. would be nice but as I said there are many possibilities.

I'd stick with a goby or small clown. Do some homework then ask some more specific quesitons.

Lots to choose from...

I'd steer clear from the 6 line simply b/c its a pod hunter and will quickly diminish your pod population in your 12 gallon.

yep they will and they may harm shrimp as well - so on second thought maybe not a good choice in that size of tank - sorry my bad :)

Still a good choice if you don't plan on keeping shrimp. Then again it may not ever bother them. I had my six line in with a sexy shrimp, skunk cleaner, and peppermint, and it never bothered any of them.

In regards to being more specific, I wasn't asking about the types of fish but was wondering if the amount (3) would be too much bioload for a 12g?

i have 4 fish in my 20L had 6. if you have enough filteration, LR and sand....you shouldnt have a problem. it does matter what kind of fish you are planing to keep. different fish need a bigger bio load than others...ect

Sorry, but the type of fish you choose may determine whether a 12g is acceptable or not. Types abc may be fine together but types def may not work. Usually when someone asks a newbie question like how many fish can I put in a tank, it shows a lack of understanding on this point.

So the answer is yes you can have three small fish in a 12g as long as some research is done on the fish you're looking at to decide whether each individual fish is appropriate for that size tank, and whether they'll get along with each other.
