Fish for a small Nano tank

Hi Guys,

Just a few questions, I am thinking of picking up a small nano tank this weekend.

Are there any small fish that I could get for a small nano tank under 2G?

I am thinking of picking up a Redsea wave glass tank, does anyone have one? Is it a good tank?

What would be the best filter system for a small tank like this?

Thanks,

Eric

I personally wouldn't put any fish in something that small. But if you really wanted to, i think something like a clown goby, maybe a baby clown (ive seen that before), yeh maybe some of the smaller gobies. I think some of the others can be a little better help.

Just make sure if you do decide to go with a fish, first, make sure you stay up on your water changes and only add the fish after the tank has been set up for at least 6 months to a year (for biological reasons), and second, that you have a larger home for the fish when they outgrow the tank.

good luck!

A neon cleaner goby or a red headed goby would be fine in that size tank. A catalina goby would be as well, if you could keep it chilled to 60-65 degrees F. I'd wouldn't necessarily wait 6 months, but at least a couple months after your cycle, to make sure you have your chemistry, temp, salinity, all stable. A tank that small any fluctuations will be fast, and possibly devastating.

A small fish would be possible but I am not sure I would try it in a tank below 2 gallons. I would look more at an invert, something like a halloween hermit, a porcelin crab, a sexy shrimp, or some other small interesting invert like that. IMO the invert would be better suited to the smaller confines of a tank like you mentioned. JMO, SKip

PS I am not saying a fish can't be kept in a smaller nano, I just think it is more humane to go with an unvert in the reduced tank size.

i agree with incysor cause blue or gold neon gobies are small and cute ... and the catalina is really colorfull i like that one too and one that incysor did mentioned was the greenbanded goby(looks ugly in pic of liveaquaria but is really cute.. one of my favorite gobies) and the stripped goby there are many goby's that are really small from 1/2 to 1 inch you can check them at liveaquaria.com or chick on links.

I think that filter may be a good choice. Remember that with the Catalina goby you will probably need a chiller due to the fact that they are from cooler waters...they arent tropical. I think that 67 to 72 degrees is suitable for them, up to about 74.

I don't want to get a chiller I guess I will get a greenbanded Goby or a small baby clown fish.

That is a real nice tank. the tank I ordered (the wave) model I think is a 1/2 a g bigger then that one.

what would be a good light for a small tank?

I was thining of a Coralife Saltwater 9" mini 2x9W (I want to have some coral)

Eric that is to small for a clown fish . You would be better sticking with a goby the only one that requires the cooler temps that I could see was the catalina goby

That tank really is a bit small for even a juvenile clown. Stick with the gobies.

The green banded ones are really much cooler looking than the pic on liveaquaria would lead you to believe. I had one for a couple weeks, then it just disappeared.
These aren't the best pics, as the glass was dirty, but they're a bit better than the liveaquaria pic.
