False Percs

Is it typical for false perc's color to darken with age? I've had mine for about 2-3 months now and they are starting to turn black. Is this normal?

Got a picture? Clown's color will tend to darken in dim lighting. A black and white clown will be an obvious brownish-black color even at a young age... was yours the "traditional" orange color when you bought it? Is it darkening up from stripes out like a true perc?

Not really. I will get some photos up this weekend. It's more from the top down across the whole body. My lights are less than 6 months old and i have 135w PC's on my 29g tank.

I've noted in stores that some False Percs have a distinct blackish tinge. so perhaps progressive melanism may be a characteristic of some strains. But what do I know, just my 2 cents
