Evil Crab...

I think I have an evil crab, I say evil because for the last couple days just before I go to bed, I walk over to my tank and notice a small frag of mushrooms tipped over.

I quickly blame one of the snails and reach into my tank and reset the frag right side up again. The very next night the same thing happens again same frag; and I repeat the same procedure blamming the snail.

So tonight, I happen to walk over to my tank just before bed time and just then, I see the small frag move again, I fixate my eyes to see what snail is doing this each night.

To my utter amazement I see this evil crab around the size of a quarter stare at me and then rush away at the speed of a cockroach to it's side.

He might have had black pinchers but it's hard to say becuse he was observed under the blue moonlights.

HELP ME CATCH HIM REEFERS; I NEED THE BEST CRAB TRAP THERE IS CAN ANYONE SHOOT ME THE LINK TO PURCHASE ONE ONLINE; I DON'T WANT TO SEE HIM TAKE APART MY FISH IN THE NIGHT AS HE GETS BIGGER....

when I had my crab, I tried the bottle trap but he was too smart for it. I ended up dismantling the rockwork and piece by piece removing it. Not sure what kind you have, but the one I had could bury himself within a split second so try to keep him in site at all times when you go hunting.

Have you seen my thread? If you look at all those rocks you will say no way!!! I hope this evil crab is also a dumb crab as well.

We will see....

When I had a small 6 gallon elcipse I got an evil crab that was literally eating my gobies at night. I remember one day I woke up and was feeding my fish but noticed that my goby was in his crevice and was moving back and forth but wouldn't come out.

I thought, how odd then I look closer and notice that he's being eaten from behind, and the movement is the crab moving him.

I was so mad I reached in and pulled out the rock and the still wouldn't come out as much as I shock and shock the rock, I tried a knife and nothing.

So I raised the rock above my head and slammed it to the ground and the rock cracked and out came the crab still alive.

Man I grabbed him and looked at him and said; this is for Johnny my fish who he had eaten, placed him on the ground and it was over, as he saw the shoe come down.

Hope I never have to be an exterminator like that again, just want to catch him and flush him....

I haven't had any luck with the glass jar method, but other's have. Twice I've just watched the tank until I figure out where the crabs hole was, removed that rock, squirted rubbing alcohol in the hole to kill it, and then managed to remove it.

B,

You've been that patient to see that little sucker go into a rock and hide? Did you have to re-aquascape everything?

Is it isnt' death with the rubbing alcohol?

The first time I was really lucky, and the rock was a newly aquired mushroom rock that was near the top of the tank. I couldn't just leave it dry and hope for the crab to come out looking for water since it was covered in shrooms. I tried using forceps to prod it out, and it just managed to get really deep inside. Finally I got fed up and squirted a syringe of rubbing alcohol on the crab. Yep the death is very quick. The alcohol is apparently very bad for their gills. I then rinsed the rock/hole out with tank water until the crab was close enough to the front that I could grab the body with the forceps, and voila.

The second time the rock was more in the middle of the pile, and I did end up having to re-aquascape a bit. The third time, the sucker was in one of the base rocks, and I wasn't willing to take the entire 40g tank apart to make it happen so I just didn't put any critters in there until I put the octo in. The crab didn't last long once the octo was in residence. :mrgreen:

Well,

The way my rocks are placed he could be anywhere at the top of the tank. I will try the trap and see if I get him.

The three crabs that you sneered up, what did they look like? Were they the notorious black clawed hairy crabs?
