Escaped Electric Scallop

We noticed today that our electric scallop has seem to have exited his shell. Not sure why or where he went, but has any one had experience or seen this before?

I think he left because he couldn't open the shell to feed maybe. It look to be a bit wedged under some live rock. Don't recall when that happened though.

Well Chris to keep a electric scallop is really hard and well target it some food to keep it alive so my guess is that it starved to death and disolve into nothing during the night and well doesnt take that much to be gone cause of the cleaning crew and shrimps if you have they smell that is dead and time to clean :) anyways im sorry to say but your scallop is a gonner   ... next time do a search before getting something so you know their specific care.. ;-)

I agree I may have been a bit neglectful. But he was doing fine until just recently. Now that I think back, I may have missed a Phyto feeding.

Argh... My feather duster decapitated as well... Man, what next?

have a look to see if anything is having a go at it....mine lost his crown after being nipped by my clown....he regrew a new one, and luckily my clown has now lost interest

another feather duster looked like he was climbing out of the top of his tube....after a good investigation i found he was being harassed by a hairy crab...which i am STILL trying to catch (he has been in a killable position a couple of times, but i just can't bring myself to do it....i'd rather give it to my LFS for their sump)

I can see him from the side of the tank (feather duster). He's under some live rock in the back "upside down". Not sure if I can get to him or not.

Feather dusters will 'decrown' when stressed. Have you checked the params of your tank in the last few days? Sounds like something might be off. Let us know what you find out!

i'd leave him...they can come totally out of their tube if they are being harassed and find somewhere new to live, or build up new tubein a different direction so he may not be doomed

Nothing out of the ordinary. I did add a leather to the mix the day before, and I remember seeing the duster in one piece.

He was definitely dead (although the body is still in the rock where he was.

I'll have to keep a closer eye on things.

Good News! The feather duster grew a new head. My daughter noticed him this morning.

Not sure how or why it happens, but it seems to have.

he may not have been stressed into it...sometimes their old crown just wears out so they get rid of it and grow another...if it keeps doing it and the crowns get smaller and smaller it is a sign of them not being fed enough....great news tho
