the tanks themselves are fine, but you'll probably have to rip the light out and retrofit a PC light in there. I've been trying to grow some mushrooms under an eclipse 3 hood, and even with new bulbs, for the most part it isn't cutting it.

What's a good tank to get that's a 2.5 to 5 gallons tops ? What do you recommend that looks good incysor?

incysor the all knowing  what about the JEBO tanks? I have one now but i dont know how to retro it. i believe its lights are 2- 8watt t-5s.
What lights come with the eclipse? superfishstore.com has pc and t-5s for the eclipse tanks. they should be enough.

The only eclipse 5 out there is a hex tank. Is this what you're looking at?
If so the light it comes with is a 15w incandescent light. It's not suitable for marine corals. Period.

I mentioned mine, because it's a much larger eclipse hood. It comes with 2 15w NO bulbs. I've tried it out for the last 6 months on my small 25g predator tank, and come to the conclusion that if I want some coral in there to make the tank a bit more colorful these lights won't cut it. I moved several mushroom pieces into the tank, and ended up having to pulll all but 2 of them out because they didn't do well at all under these lights.

Most of the all-in-one hoods that come with a light, and a filtration module in the back, seem to need to be modded to be usable for saltwater tanks.
They either don't have enough light, or they don't have enough light and enough filtration.

I basically had to rip out the entire filtration portion of my hood to fit a skimmer and a larger filter on the back of the tank. This was necessary to keep messy eaters like a dwarf lionfish and a small puffer. The lights are going to be replaced, and I just need to make up my mind whether I'm going to try to retrofit them behind the plastic housing in the hood, or just scrap the hood altogether. lately I'm leaning towards just scrapping it.

here is the wesite with it.http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... &subref=AA . its a new tank.
i found a website that sales pcs and t-5s for the eclipse tanks. take a look at it. go to superfishstore.com and then click on lights. am i reading it wrong? or do you have to get a kit for those lights? I bring it up because if i can just switch the bulbs to t-5s that would be great. right?
the JEBOs come with t-5 lighting so I might just stick with that one.
