Hey,
Just thought I would ask opinions on which corals would be easiest to keep for us newbies?? All the LFS' around here are sky high with only two quality ones, others compare to petco in quality..man our petco in Greensboro is scary...

IMO Button Polyps, Zoanthids, Mushrooms, Green Star Polyps, Candy Cane, Plate Coral, Leather Coral, Xenia and Brains are preety hardy and are great for beginner reef aquarists, and even the most experienced reefers will enjoy the beauty of these specimens.

I agree with aromanos choices but you could also add leather corals and xenia to the list.

Awesome, thx for skipm. I added them to the list.
If anyone remembers any other specimens that are recommended for beginners , please add your comments. ;-)

I would even add zoanthids to the list. They are somewhat light-demanding though but pretty hardy in my opinion. Just keep an eye out for 'killer nudis'.

Can't go wrong with GSP and a couple shrooms to start off with.

i think brain coral and plate arent that good for begginer..... and some have problems with xenias and starbust.....

in my opinion the really good ones for bigginers in my experience are like mentioned

zoanthids, mushrooms, candy canes & feather duster but your list is great aroma im just saying that some of those they dont do well in some tanks for a weird reason....in some do and in some dont.

but if we are talking on begginer corals that do well and really hardy i got great luck with torch and frog spawms are really hardy too...(tell me about cause i stress them all the time but they get over with and then they open in 30min again)

uuuuu i almost forgot what about pipe organ....

My top two picks.....

zoanthids and mushrooms........

once the tank matures a bit......the rest sound good.

I say green star polyp and shrooms , and candy canes they seem to be super easy to keep
I never could keep xenia and zoas in our tanks I have some zoas that are doing fine now tho ?? I think we got a bad batch here .I just got some super colors (or at least I think so ) and we will see if the do well they all (I think there is close to 100- 150 polyps on it )seem to be opened tho

Actually you probably could add that to the newbie list we have one and it seems to be doing fine you may need to target feed 1 or 2 x a week but they are fairly easy.
They do get big and should be kept out of the reach of the other corals that it may sting but over all it is an easy coral I just didnt add it on because they can be a bit expensive and if it doesent survive for what ever reason it can be a lot of money down the tube. Most of the beginer corals listed are fairly affordable zoas can get pricey too tho depending on the color

My hammer coral was actually one of the earliest additions to my 20 gallon tank. I had it for over 3 yrs before selling it. You'd definitely want a nice big tank for its sweepers though.

Well, I couldn't resist..
I was in my LFS yesterday and they had a 2 headed piece of frogspawn hidden behind a huge mushroom rock. I asked him what he wanted for it..(I thought it was a hammer) and he said aww...gimme 14 bux..since he didn't know he had it.

I bought it..seemed pretty fair to me...Its small with 1 head about quarter size and the other about half dollar size...

Congratulations on your new frogspawn .....they are very pretty in my opinion ..and the price is not bad either ....tho I have snuck a few pieces from ours for less than fair prices ...I got a blue trumpet for 5 bucks he sold it to me as a mushroom which I knew it wasent
