any one know how well a dorso that hangs in the tank will work?

what i mean is that the actual pipe is behind the tank and downward u part is in the tank.

Not very well. Your best to limit your nightmares and do an overflow.

A durso is just to quiet the noise of a standard overflow. It has to be used in conjunction with a standard overflow. You can't use one instead of a regular overflow.
