DSB LR & Fish amount 12gal

I've done a nano before you can read my experience story I didn't pay attention to things and I want to do things right this turn around.

Deep Sand Bed (DSB) 4in
That sounds like a lot for a little nano (12gal). I think I had one live bag in my nano the first time. If I keep that amount (which has been sitting in the tank all by its self for the last three years in my basement: I plan on rinsing it a lot with RO water) If I added another bag would that be too much? I've read paying the extra is a waste of money for the live sand because it will be feed by the LR, and the best is to get sand from the lfs tanks, or get some from people of ebay. Has anyone ever bought live sand from some one off of ebay?

Live Rock (LR)
How many pounds is a good amount for 12gal... Will it be different for me because I will be running a refugium that will hold (I don't 10 to 20 gallons)? So my old LR is dryied out so I plan on using the cool looking pieces and buying the rest. The other dry stuff I will through in the sump.

I want to buy some really cool LR off the net, but I don’t want to kill it or lose any calcium growth off of them so I plan on buying one or two little LR from the lfs and once my cycle is done and my calcium levels are good then I will buy my cool looking live rock off the net. plus I don’t want algae growing all over it during the cycle. Does this sound alright?

Fish amount... 12 gal nano
1 clown size and 2 small gobies
3 small gobies

but if I have a sump that adds extra water can I have more? like
1clown size and three small gobies
1clown 1bigger sand eater gobie and one or two small gobies

thanks

Hey Mannaize, Welcome to Nanotank.com your plans sound pretty good. as far as fish I would keep it with the 1 clown and 2 small gobies plan. When I had my 12 I had 2 clowns that I kept in it. Also because of the sump it does give you more water in the system, but you need the space for more fish in the display, just so there are not so many disturbances among the inhabitants. DSB, I haven't read a lot about them so don't know much. If you do 4 inches thought doesn't that only leave you with 9-10 inches of depth? seems like a lot of real estate to give up. Why not do a 20 gallon tall sump and put the DSB in there, essentially a remote DSB, and have an inch or so in the display.
