djconn's 2.5

Below are some pics of my new 2.5 nano setup. I purchased the custom hood and base from Matt @ http://www.reefcanopy.com. I was very impressed with his work as you can see below. The tank fits perfectly into the base and I lucked out by getting one of his last full setups which included the 2X13W ballasts, reflector and a fan.

Here is a pic of the base and canopy

Lighting for the 2.5

The canopy came with 2 13W PC ballasts already installed along with a little fan for circulation.

I ordered and installed the lights from Hellolights. Super fast shipment and great price.

I knew I had 3 weeks or so before the canopy would arrive initially so when it finally got here, I was all set.

Lights on

Here is a pic with the lights on. Because of the 50/50 and the actinics, the tank has a nice blue hue which I've grown to really like.

Nanorock

Here is some of the Marshall Island nano rock I purchased from Premium Aquatics to put into the tank. Great price at $3.49/lb. It came packaged very well and I was happy with the quality and size of the rock. For more discussion on my purchases from Premium Aquatics please see my post in the Vendor Feedback area.

Finally added water, pure aragonite sand, clean up crew and rock to get things going. I've also added an AQ-100 for flow inside the tank and an Azoo Mini HOB filter to provide a little more surface circulation to the tank. I put a handful of wiregrass and rubble rock to the filter to provide a minifuge as well. Its into about its first month of cycling so I finally added some zoanthids. More pics to come.

Its been a little over a month now and everything is nice and settled. I have no algae problems and evaporation hasn't really been an issue. I still see little isopods every now and then but since I don't have any fish, they don't bother me. I changed the 50/50 out with a 6500K daylight. It looks okay combined with the actinic but I'm considering replacing it with a 10K daylight.

Current inhabitants:
1 sexy shrimp
2 turbo snails
2 small blue leg hermits
Corals:
Green button polyps
Various Zoanthids

Finally ordered a 10,000K bulb and added it to my actinic. Not much new with the tank but I did add a few frags. Lots of pods.

pic to come soon

After much debate, I decided to use my 2.5 as a fraggin tank for the time being. Got some xenia and gsp growing right now.

Yeah, everything is looking pretty good after about 5 days now. The xenia is pulsing and standing upright. I also fragged some gsp and they are coming out now too. I might try some zoanthids next. We'll see.

djconn,
was wondering about those blue mushrooms in the middle, how are you gettin them to propagate??? Been trying like mad over the last few weeks, but mine don't seem to want to spread. I think i'm splitting them right, but i'm getting nothing. any advice, or reasons why??

I just recently purchased that piece but I have noticed a few new ones popping out. I think the key is water changes and iodine dosing. My green striped shrooms are splitting like crazy and they seem very happy.

I've had mixed luck with mushrooms in the past. Some do great and others just seem to wither away.

i'll try increasing iodine dosing. i'm pretty religous with my water changes, so i dont think thats the problem. i guess i just got a bad clump of shrooms. nothing else i can do i guess......oh well.

This tank has been through two moves since my last update. I've traded or sold off all my GSP and xenia frags and ended up with a little more room in the tank finally. Everything is still doing pretty good. Got a few more mushrooms species and added a few other things here and there.
