Deep purple tubular thing on LR...

So the reason I picked out this LR was because it had this cool deep purple thing on it. It's been in my tank for about 3 or 4 days now and the purple color is coming back. Anyway when i stare at it closely it looks like there are two little antennae coming out of each tubular thing. When anything gets near it I swear they retract back inside. Long story short, its a purple bunch... looks like little tubes, almost like a rose when you look inside. Hope you can see the pics, i took them with my pda. Its right in the center of the pic.

The fact that they are tubes, and that you see the two appendages protruding from the tubes, indicates that it is possibly a small common worm. Most tanks (that don't have wrasses) get a small plethora of these creatures. What the purple is, I have no idea. There are nearly 6,000 different species of marine Polychaetes so absolute identification is impossible without finding a speci.alist and sending them a specimen. Most are scavengers, or detritus eaters.

The other creature that strikes me as a possibility, is a barnacle. Barnacles come in several flavors, but they are generally filter feeders(there are a few exceptions that are parasitic, but you need not worry about these). They are arthropods. They are also fast growers, and spread pretty quickly. These shouldn't be an issue in your tank, if you can keep them in a specific area.

Those are the only two things I can come up with.

Also, hopefully admin will see this and contact me, as I attempted to contact them, but the email is a pain.

I went through some of the ID links and I think that they look like Vermitid Snails. I even saw a purple one on one of the pages. Apparently they shoot out a web of mucus to catch food. They look pretty identical. Thanks for your insight! Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thats a great link. Those definitely look like your guys. I would keep em, until they cause an issue. Thats a pretty neat little addition.
