Well, I had a pretty decent sized hydnophora in my 20 gal for over a year and its health steadily declined. I think this was due to two conditions: Low light (PCs in my 20 gal) and low flow. I've since learned that this species prefers very strong light and strong to intermittently strong currents according to Sprung (The Reef Aquarium).
My 5.5 has way more PC lighting (64 watts) so I decided to give my new Dremel, which was an awesome Christmas present, a whirl. I made three or four little mounted frags. Sprung says that "branches can be fragmented, and even small fragments recover well and grow into new colonies". Anyone else frag their hydnophora?
