Creating a new tank and need help on lighting...

Hey everyone... I'm in process of creating a tank which will be anywhere from 6-12 gallons. If anyone has any suggestions to a halide pendant thats 70watts please direct me. I plan on using a Ushio HQI 10000K with it. Will this be enough or do I have to add actinics too? If so how do I add actinics when its a pendant?

Last question.... If a pendant states 400 watt can you put in a 70 watt bulb? Thanks

Id have to look into the various 70 watt pendants before suggesting one, but I can attempt to answer your other questions.

1) As far as the K rating goes, it has been my observation that Ushio's run a little more white/yellow than other brands... that being said, any 10,000k lamp, especially Ushio, will have a very white, somewhat yellowish tint to them. If that is pleasing to your eyes, then go for it. Personally, I love a blue tint. The Astralux 14,000k may be one to look into, also the 20,000k Aqualine.

2) You can only run lamps that match the wattage of the ballast.

I personally have a ushio 10k right now, and i think it looks way too white/yellow
i would go with a 20k bulb

also vote for a 20k (ushio or aqualine) i really like my ushio 20k since doesnt look too blue more like a tint of blue like 14k so ill say that will be a good bulb to have and you wont need to use actinic suplemention unlike with a 10k but well i wish i could see the 20k aqualine in person but as said i think with the 20k you loose alot of par in the 70w MH so you should look into a 14k.... but at the end whatever we recommend the one that will give the shots is you.... cause we have different preferences so you should try those different bulbs :lol: if i was millioner ill try bouth 20k ushio/aqualine and a 14k astralux...Eventhough i remember that i didnt like the 14k astralux but i wish i saved the bulb so i could compare bouth 14k and 20k to see whitch one really i liked... but im happy with the 20k ushio...
