Found this guy in my nanocube after re-aquascaping. Any idea if its reef safe? Its got blue claws.

Any idea of how to catch the little booger?

dont know what it is but I would tend to say not reef safe ?
try a baby food jar with some bait ? or pantyhose with bait in them?

He is definetly bads news, his claws are identical to the infamous crab with black claws only that his are blue.

Thats the first thing I noticed when I looked at the picture, his claws are much different in design than the reef safe emerald crabs claws.

Looks like his claws are designed for tearing flesh and destruction, get rid of him quickly before you add anything else.

he does resemble an emerald crab doesn't he? For a definite ID, go to Dr. Ron at RC. You'll get a quick response.

Yeah, he does look like an emerald but his claws are blue. He's also looks a little more rough...sounds weird but that is the only way I can describe him. He's also very shy and is very hard to see most of the time.

I really just need to get him out. Any other ideas besides the bait in the jar? You think a bristleworm trap will work?

I have a similar situation in my NC24. I have noticed a tiny crab, that I am not sure if it's reef safe, but this guy is also very shy and any sudden move he vanishes never to be found again for months. I think I've only seen him 3 or 4 times the most. It would be virtually impossible for me to get him out of the tank, but never noticed any damage to my corals.

A good general guideline is if it's a xanthid type crab and it's legs look hairy and the claw tips are dark colored it's not reef safe.

Thx a lot for the links incysor.
It really does look like a Harlequin crab.
I tried to catch it a few times, but it's virtually a impossible task.
Luckly I never really noticed any harm from this little fellow.
