Go to the beginners section on the forum and read as much as you can . There is a lot of information that is always repeated. Why do I know this because I'm a beginner too. Oh yeah and :welcome

Look at my post in beginner's section, I tried to post ever step that I did.

Welcome to nanotank.

There are thorough answers all throughout this site for questions...just search through the forums as previously suggested.

A brief answer would be corals: zoanthids, mushrooms, green star polyps, etc...

Fish.../depends on what kind...however 1-4(if very small species.

Feel free to ansk any questions that you cant find the answer for...we love to help out.

i'm lookin at coral right now on liveaquaria.com and i'm wonderin if it's a good idea to get semi-aggressive coral? I'm thinkin of getting a Clove Polyp they look really nice. I don't want it if it's gonna eat my fish though! lol... Maybe i should just start off with a starburst polyp their peaceful.

:welcome and well im the last one to come but there is alot of nice corals that you can keep they alot of kind and colors of shroom & zoos does are the more common ones and really hardy but there is also starbust, candy canes, torchs, frogspawm, xenias & well those are the more common ones.

and what to keep they are alot of spicies but here is what i like

swimmers: false clown fish, red or purple FIREFISH, line wrassels well this are the most friendly that i know and will be fun to look.

sandshifters or small gobies: there alot of kinds but great one and really common is the yellow watchman goby sandshifter and small species from 1" to 3".

blue or gold NEON GOBY
redhead goby
green banded goby
yellow or other colors of clown goby
trimma goby etc etc

but thoser are the most common ones and also some great gobies are the shrimp kind like yasha something dont remember complete name.

and well you can keep like 2 swimmers and 2 small ones (goby kind) if you have a great quality water by doing regular water changes everyweek and a good filter system of course.

any more question just ask i know like everyone says read in bigginer cause we always same things all the time but i think sometimes new users want to be treated special or make the post personal ... i dont know if i explained my self well anyways...

good luck and glad that you choice nanotank.com really friendly place.

Cloves are in my opinion a more difficult coral
I would not order anything just yet till your tank is up and running cycled and
stable :welcome to nano tank

Flyguy... I still don't have any fish, thats the reason for being patient. Alot fo people here that are new put in fish after two weeks with LR, they don't let their LR's cure or watch their water parameters just in case they have spikes. What happens afterwards is that their inverts/fish die off after a week or two. I feel be safe than sorry. I had my tank running with cured rocks for two and a half weeks. The put in a cleaning which has been in the for a week and a half. Its not fun watching snails for a week put you got to appreciate starting up a tank :lol3:

All I did in the mean time was read this forum and ask questions. There are alot of nice people here that will save you time and a headache. Sadie helped me out big time and answered all my questions. Now I'm working with Eddy for some corals, but everyone pitches in to help one another. :maitre

For my tank, I think I'm gonna get a small clown sometime this week. I have a four gallon and everyone stated two fish would be pushing it but okay, 3 would over do it! So for me one clown and one Goby. Have fun, ask alot of questions, and please don't rush anything :fu ha,ha,ha :lol3:

Thanks eddy, these are the fish i'm lookin at right now: Neon Goby, Firefish, and a Yellow Clown Goby. For Coral: Ricordea Mushroom, Starburst Polyp, and Purple Tree Gorgonian. Lastly I want a few Inverts: Dwarf Zebra Hermit Crab, Spiny Lobster, Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, Super Tongan Nassarius Snail, and Marble Sea Star.

I also have a question about the filteration system. Since i have a freshwater tank already i'm transforming it to saltwater and the filteration system i wanna get is the Eclipse Marinland Filteration top that comes with the light system already. Would this be ok and will i still have to get a Powerhead Pump?

Lastly what kind of Live Rock should i get? Thanks for makin me feel welcome.

I would skip the star fish and the lobster as well as the purple tree gorgonian for the following reasons
Star fish : knock stuff over . Need a very well established tank as well as not suitable for a nano under 30 gallons in my opinion because they will deplete there food in no time and it wont replenish quick enough resulting in a starvation of a creature .
Purple tree :, just a difficult coral for beginners
Lobster : predator will possibly kill fish and other inhabitants that are bottom dwellers . the other stuff looks ok just add slowly once your cycle is done JMHO

Angels and Butterflies
These are fish that must be ignored while in the pet store - all are both delicate and difficult fish to keep. Many butterflies have specialized diets which make them hard to maintain in captivity.

Batfish are also other fish that should be avoided.

Others
Other saltwater fish which can be attempted once you get good at controlling the fish's environment are hawkfishes, grammas, dottybacks, basslets, and wrasses. Some are more difficult to keep than others, but not nearly as difficult as angles and butterflies.

Fishes to Stay Away From
All angelfish, all butterflyfish, Pipefish, Seahorses, Long-nosed Filefish, Blue Ribbon Eels, Stonefish, and Moorish Idols. Mandarin fish should also be avoided in non-reef tanks (they are hard to feed).
