Copepods

Hello all,

So after about 6 weeks I now have some serious copepod activity. What are your recommendations, if any, on controlling/reducing the population? I know that purchasing livestock that feeds on them is generally a bad idea because the livestock will eventually starve after they eat them all, but having my glass that messy is cramping my style. Suggestions?

i wouldnt do anything about them. They are harmless. It is actually a sign of a thriving tank. You can capture them and send some my way... ;-)

Would copepods show up before a tank had cycled? I am trying to figure out if my tank has cycled...Readings are zero but it all happened quick and no hugely high readings on anything.

I had an infestation of copepods after a couple of weeks of setting up my tank. I could see hundreds of them crawling on the glass, and this is fairly common during the cycling period. They tend to disappear once the livestock is introduced and start eating the pods.

yeah exact same thing happend to mine like andre stated i had them every were i could even see that was sand was moving but was the pods and all over glass rock good like a bunch of ants on a piece of candy then got my fish and they were gone and some corals eat pods to so just wait until you stock and pod problem will go away.
