Computer Question

Every since we got this faster connection there have been 'pauses' in the service, which shuts everything your doing online down until it comes back up. Normally they don't last long, but sometimes they can.

I've been round and round with the service technicians and everytime they come out it's something else from what the last one said. One issue was my 2.4Ghz phone that was cause it to pause whenever it was in use. When I told the technican that the wireless phone was causing the problem he just rolled his eyes at me. Before he left he ask to use the phone, so I gave him the house line (wireless one of course) and what do you know, he got knocked offline and just couldn't believe it. Said he had never heard of that before. So off I go to buy another phone which helped the issue but didn't get rid of it. They've been out to replace everything but the dish on top of the house (which one technician said was the problem).

I run AVG anti-virus software that gets updated everyday and it comes up clean. I constantly delete TIF and cookies/history. These places like PCPitStop etc. are they safe? Anyone used them?

I'm gonna go postal if I don't find out what is wrong and fix it quickly!

So a few questions first...is your computer wireless? If so, what kind of router is it? What kind of connection do you have? Cable or what?

Okay, we can go from there.

The computer in question is a regular desktop. The connection I guess would just be standard high speed (tower to tower, line of site) and the router is a NetGear box.

That is weird. I don't really see how a 2.4Ghz phone would have anything to do with your connection especially if it is hard-wired (not wireless). That would make sense if it was networked on a wireless system b/c I had the same thing happen to me. Whenever someone used their cordless 2.4 ghz phone in my complex, it would drop my wireless connection.

Did this intermittent connection problem happen exactly at the same time you switched to high-speed?

The technician was just as baffled, but sure enough whenever he would hit the Talk button on the wireless phone the connection would drop.

As to if it started when we got high speed thats hard to say. We were on aol dialup and AOL is known for dropping a connection at anytime.

DSL, Cable, or do you have a special receiver antenna thingy on your roof that runs a wire into your house? If you have the last then I would say you need to get a new phone or new service provider. The 5.8 Ghz phones should solve the problem, but then again your microwave could transmit static along the 2.4 ghz frequency as well. Baby moniters also may transmit on this freq. Really weird problem and I hope these suggestions solve your problem.

There is an antenna on top of the house and a wire that runs into the house, ethernet connection if I remember right. I've replaced the 2.4Ghz phone with a 5.8 Ghz and still having the problems.

Ah ha, so you aren't hardwired...you have satellite of some kind. Everything is different now. Who provides the service? There could be all kinds of reasons for the interuptions.
