I have a Clown about 1 inch and a Algae Blenny about 2-2.5 inches. I just noticed today that the clowns rear tail fin is all bitten off as if it was nibbled on? Could the algae blenny be the suspect? Never heared of that happening? I do have blue and scarlet hermits but thats about it.
Tank size is a 4 gallon... Please help.

i wouldn't put it past the algae blennie they are notoriously bad tempered....usually it is only aimed at other blennies ....but in a four gallon tank he may feel the need to lash out at anyone. just a side note they are heavy algae eaters and need a lot of hair algae to nibble on and will likely not get enough in a 4, so it may be wise to trade it out anyway JMO - also they jump i had a black sailfin jump out a couple months back.

I have to agree that a 4 gallon tank may be a bit too small for a blennie to feel at home in, go with a smaller fish like one of the smaller gobies. There are some inverts like cleaner shrimp that would also work better as tankmates in the same tank with the clown.

I have a damsel and a black saflin blenny in my 12g. They both like to hang out in the same spot. Neither seems to even know the other is there. I guess a smaller tank could pose some different problems.

I would like to mention that the algae blennies can starve if there is not enough algae. I put the blenny in my tank to help with some green algae. It cleaned it up in about 2 weeks. I am talking very clean rocks. I am now soaking pieces of glass in regular water allowing it to sit in sunlight until decent amount of algae is growing on the piece of glass. I am rotating a few pieces out of my tank to make sure the blenny has enough to eat. Maybe you could try this to ensure a tailfin doesn't look appealing..

Thats unusual normally clowns are the ones molesting other fish   sounds like the best solution is to take out the blenny but if you dont want to take it back you should try to put some seaweed for him...

I have a blenny and have never seen him being aggressive towards the clowns. If anything it is the otherway around.

Cramming two fish in a 4 gallon can cause unusual behaviors.

I would get rid of one of the two fish.

I apologize for my previous post, it didn't sound right when I reread it back. I agree with that Jesse 100%
