Are the JBJ nanocubes really glass? I thought all along that they were acrylic. What do you guys use to clean the algae off in your cubes without scratching the surface?

I use mainly a nimble magnet but also have an old toothbrush and I cut down a foam paintbrush that I also use. I use a peice of 1/2" CPVC pipe that I cut down to a little less than a foot long and have the foam brush (cut down to about 3/4" long) mounted in one end and the toothbrush fits perfectly in the other end.

stock jbj magnet does the trick for most of it, for the harder stuff that's grown, I use a little hand scraper and get my hands in there and scrape it out. Lastly I have this plastic scraper on a stick that helps too.

well I dont have a cube so I didnt vote but this is what we use for our tank
cleaner magnet
scrub and toss cut to squares
rubber gloves ( work well at hard to reach with just the finger tip ) also these have a grip finger tip ( medical gloves)
plastic razor blades for scraping
and toothbrush for corners and around lips
plus hemostats for grabbing any debris, holding the razor and the scrub and tosses

Will a regular old twister magnet work? I've got tons of them and they are very slim and can fit in between rocks and the glass.

I guess the nanocubes really are made out of glass then huh?

They are glass tanks, thats part of the reason for all of the cracked tank threads on other boards. I used one of the small Twisters before I bought the Nimble and it worked out fine for me. The Nimble is quite a bit thinner though, it can even fit between the Hydor Deflector and the wall of the tank. Another thing that I have done to make it easier to clean my tank is that I cut the rim off of my Hydor with a sheetmetal nibbler, it did a very clean job and was quite easy to do. HTH, Skip

When I contacted them they recommended a super nimble for a 12 nanocube. The inner half is 1/2" thick, the inner part of the regular nimble is only 1/4". Don't let the "super" part fool you though this thing is still very much a nano cleaner. Skip
