i recently bought a new eclipse 3 gallon put in a damsel and live rock. i would like some corals in there and my stock light is already terribly underpowered (6watt 9" t5 fluorescent) . my two coices for better lighting are:

the 13x2 26watt system from ahs supply
http://www.ahsupply.com/twox.htm

or

two 20 watt coralife bulbs froma standard screw in socket

http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant ... lifepcbulb

How much room do you have over the tank? What are the top's dimensions.

The ah supply ones are designed to go end-to-end. I'm not sure your tank is wide enough to accomodate this.

The two 20w coralife bulbs would probably work, although without a reflector of some sort you'll lose a lot of the light. These also tend to be somewhat 'fatter' than the normal bulbs so you need more height space in the canopy for them than with the regular ones, not much but some.

Also take careful consideration of what you want to put into the tank and what it's light requirements are. Have what you want to stock your tank with dictate how much power you'll need. Then figure out what you can cram into your hood!

I have 4 of the 13w lights from AH Supply over my 5.5g tank using a 96 quad light reflector, the 2x13w kit comes with a 17" reflector so the bulbs can run end to end but you can easily cut the reflector in half and run them side by side. one of the best features of that kit is that the ballast mount remotely so you can place them outside your canopy to save space and reduce heat. i've never used the screw in bulbs so i can't comment on them
