Cheap Nano + 46g sump

Hello everyone. This is my first post on Nanotank.com and I just wanted to say what an excellent collection all you memebers have developed for nano-newbs such as myself. I have been reading alot and appreciate everyone's contributions to this site.

I had two question. First, I'm looking for the cheapest website/store that sells the 12g JBJ nano. Could anyone help me out because I refuse to get robbed by my LFS.

2nd, in a few months I was considering setting up a 46g bowfront and had a question about water flow and the sump I need. I have a CPR CS150 overflow (1600gph), a RIO HF32 pump rated at 1920gph, and was curious as to what kind of wet/dry I should purchase. I was leaning towards a CPR filter, either the CR1000 or CR2000. Has anyone had any experience with CPR wet/dry filters? I also imagine the 2000 would handle 1600gph alot better then the 1000.

My question is, 1600gph isn't excessive is it? I always thought the rule was the more cycles the better. My main cocern would simply be the live sand getting kicked up. Would the same filter system work well for a 55g setup as well?

Thanks so much.

I will give you my opinion and others can chime in where I left off or add to what I say.

There are a few sites that I recommend, though they may not be the cheapest.

http://www.drfostersmith.com
http://www.marinedepot.com
http://www.premiumaquatics.com

Those are the three that I purchase most of my equipment from.

I'm not entirely sure on what your trying to do with the overflow and wet/dry filter arrangement. If you are overflowing then filtering, you want to be below the rating on your overflow. If not then you have the potential to pull in air and run your overflow dry. If you have your sump setup correctly then your return pump will dictate how much flow you will get through your overflow. If your overflow is rated lower than your return pump then you will more than likely flood your display.

As far as 1600gph being too much flow, I say that it might not be enough. I have around 1200-1400 gph in my 29g tank and I am about at far as I want to go with water flow. I have the sugar fine sand then about an inch of the aragalive sand on top and it doesn't blow around. The key that I have found is to distribute the flow.

I agree. My 30L has about 1400 gph and depending on the direction of the flow, my fine sand stirs just a tad, so I just adjust it a bit. For a 46, I would personally go with higher flow.

Go on craigslist.com or ebay.com I have seen some good deals on both. If you can find one near your area on craigslist you should be more than happy to drive the distance. Ebay is great but just remember the shipping charge.
