What type of camera is everyone using for their macro shots? I've just sold my old digital, and looking for a new one for around 200.00.

my digi

mine is the Nikon coolpix 8700, very expensive investment, but for the range you are looking for, try buydig.com and look there. You'll find good canon cameras, my bro got one around that price range you are looking for I believe. Canon S500 I believe. A series canon are relatively cheap too. Good luck.

For macro pics, which you'll do a lot I would recommend the camera Incysor uses. It's the best I've seen on many sites. I think it's an Olympus line, you'll have to ask him.

Opps,

I didn't read the part about the limit being 200 bucks. If that's the case my camera the canon S500 is also out.

But I needed it to be known that if macro is your cup of tea, no camera I've seen is better at Macro pics than Incysors.

Just my opinion.

I've got an olympus 5050. When I bought it a bit over a year ago it cost about $700. I've seen several used ones go for about $250 on ebay. Lots of people are picking up the OLY 8080 to upgrade and are getting rid of their 5050s.

www.dpreview.com has great info. You can look all the cameras up by brand, or specify features you want.

I've got a canonS400...not bad for most things, but getting it to focus on what you want in macro mode is a big PITA, but I have no real need to upgrade to a digiSLR (but being a button pusher it'd be really cool).

The biggest thing I think you'd need and this may be what I need: a tripod. Otherwise I just crank it to largest settings with finest resloution and take big pics and then crop them down to what I want.

I've seen a huuuuge improvement in my macro pics since purchasing a tripod. Mike have you seen my macro shot of my redsea pulsating xenia. It's crystal clear and highly detailed. I wish I could get all my pics that way

Ended up with a Sony DSC-P73. It's not the best by any means, but will be ok for what I need. I haven't played with many of the option but thought I'd share a few of the pictures I took.
