Hi Guys,

I need a bit of help. What would be the best way to add an Automatic Top Off System on my 30G tank. I do not have a sump. I was thinking of getting one of those JBJ systems. what other stuff do I need? ( just a small tank and a pump mabe a heater to keep the water at the right temp?)

How about this system?

Thanks for you input.

For a tank without a sump your best bet is a system that utilizes float switches because most of the other systems I am familiar with would allow too much fluctuation in the water level between the pump coming on and cycling off. Most of the float switches I am familiar with have less than 1 inch between on and off. I use a Tsunami Auto top-off unit in my sump and it works great but my water levels fluctuates just over an inch and that would be too much for a tank.

Hi. Here is the setup that I use. I use it in my sump, but in the one sensor mode it keeps the water level within 1/8 inch. It also has a timer that will limit the amount of time that the pump will run (from 4 to 14 minutes) to prevent overfilling. One tip... when I do water changes and the level goes up and down, the pump seems to end up in shut off mode, and if I forget to reset it, I come home to a bubble factory as the water level drops in my sump and my return pump starts grinding bubbles.

There might be better systems out there, but, this works for me.

plus you will need a pump... I used this one

Thanks for you input guys

I do not have a sump.

Has any one setup a JBJ Automatic Top Off System on a 30 or less with out a sump? What are my other options to keep the salt level down?

Thanks,

Eric

Hi again. The system that I endorsed in the above post has been modified. I just changed the peristaltic pump to a standard submersible little giant pump. The peristaltic pump was not fillling the tank quickly enough and this was causing some problems.

Hope I did not mislead you!

That kit looks pretty interesting, let us know how it works out and how hard it is to assemble.
