I found a complete 12 gallon system for sale on E-Bay
(item # 7747207927)
It is within a couple of miles of me so was looking for moving advice. That is if it is worth buying.

I would appreciate any advice, guidance etc.

The set-up is a pretty good deal if you can get it for the opening bid especially. Some of the livestock needs to go though, the tang and clown are bad choices for such a small tank and really should be either sold or traded. The other livestock sound fine. You would expect to pay about $175 for the tank and another $70 or so just for the stand, with this in mind you can get an idea of the value. You also need to consider the work involved in breaking down and setting the tank back up.

sounds like it would be a good deal with the exception of the 2 fish they would certianly need to be rehomed the tank is intirely too small for those fish .Moving it should be relatively easy have some buckets or tote bins bottle the water keep the corals in a bin with just enough water to cover them also leave about 1/4 inch of water here is a link with the move of tanks documented. Also get some tubing from homedepot or lowes in the plumbing section or airline tubing will make running it back in easy with out sturring up the sand and such just be sure to have it kind of run on to a rock or something to help prevent splash , this works well and I have used this method when needing to empty or refill tanks with the water after reaquascaping , and the water seems to clear very quickly this way.
I would say if you can bid on it go for it just remember the 2 fish need to go http://www.nanotank.com/forum/viewtopic ... ving+tanks

Check with your LFS, they may give you credit on the fish and you can adjust the cost accordingly.

yeah thats a great idea skimp get some creadit and then get things that you'll need or suitable fish for the tank.... and i think is a great deal cause the stand is really expensive plus LR & LS everything adds up but if you can agree with him to lower alittle the price will be even better and having does 2 fish for 6 months that means the setup is stable and that he took good care of that tank but anyways the fish have to go i agree with that and something to think in the future you will need to change the bulbs of that tank.

Thanks for all the replies (particularly the Birthday wishes :D )
Having thought about it the following prevail:

Do not need the fish. Cleaning crew OK.
Would not use the stand.
It is not a 2006 model (important from what I have read?)
Crushed coral instead of LS whaich I was aiming for.
The break in work has been done, but is this important? Isn't this time exicting?
Replace bulbs (at least 6 months earlier) at ?? cost.
Then of course the work involved in moving it.

In summary - it would be a lot of work and probably not much financial savings!
Advantage it would be a "already set up tank".

Just my ramblings, I still have 5 days to decide.

Thanks again.... Didger aka Geoff

:bestwishes: Happy b-day :yippee :carn :group :birthday: :bestwishes:

everything sounds good but lose the crushed coral cause that only accumulates things like amonia and nitrates....and if i was you leave the LS in the tank with a little of water... and then remove everything so you dont disturb the LS. ohh well thats my opinion....

i agree with eddie...no crushed coral, it just traps detritus. Go with aragonite sand...sugar-sized grade is my favorite...mix that with some slightly larger grain sand and your good to go.

p.s...happy b-day!
