Just wanted to let you folks know that my tank experienced a population explosion this week. After buying a cleanup crew I noticed some small white dots that appeared on the LR. I thought it was sand that was being blown around by the powerheads. Nope!!! Baby snails. Bunches and Bunches!!! I also noticed the purple corallin algae is spreading to my DYI base rock that a friend made for me. If I understand correctly-- when this algae starts to spread, that is a good sign. I still have no ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates and the pH hovers around 8.0 to 8.2. I think it is off to a good start. I guess I may need to start water changes here in the next week. I am almost afraid too considering how well things are and there are no nitrates. What do you experts think?
