ATO-Auto Top-off from AquaBuys

Hey guys/gals:

Sorry I haven't posted much, but hey, I think I have things finally handled at work :) Anyway, I was cruising one of our sponsers "AquaBuys" (where I won in the contest for the 6 gallon cube 2006 model) to see what I can get to compliment the new cube.

The ATO-Auto Top-off looks like a good investment to add on to keep the evaporating water in check. (this is an issue for me when I upgraded the lighting)

I am also open for other ideas to make the new 6 gallon cube a success, and that means modding the tank (example: for better flow) , before I set it up with water and my inhabitants from my old 6er.

I have time on my side with this, as I'm currently waiting for my new 6er to arrive. (It's been a delay with Sam from Aquabuys, but he says they should be here at the end of this month) I figure it's a good time to post, so I can get an idea before I start doing things to the new 2006 cube.

Here's a link of the ATO and pricing.

I am all for an automated top-off system and I haven't heard anything bad about the ATO. I think the Aqualifter pump at the bottom of the page would be a good pump to combine with this unit because it would only pump what you need without going over due to the rate of water it pumps.

I love mine and certainly recommend this product.

I wish I had made the investment earlier while I still had my cube. It’s one less thing to worry about, and since I'm usually not home on the weekends and the ATO is just a live saver. It works flawless and keeps my salinity and sump level perfectly stable.

That second link of that dude's DIY is freakin' unbelieavable. I can't believe somebody would go through all that trouble for a 6er. Seeing that is like seeing my brother with all those gadgets he has under his tank.

I like the more simplicity of the first link you gave though, thanks....not going for the nobel prize in nano 6 modifications, but hey you know. I care about cooling, and also good flow.

Thank you very much Dickie, very cool. This is giving me great insight!!

Thanks to the rest of you for your comments and suggestions on the matter....by all means, keep it coming :)

Honestly,

The only ATO I would trust is the JBJ ATO (like the one in first link) or the Tunze Osmolator.

Go w/ the ATO, cant beat that for the price.

There is a good mod on NR too for removing the ability of the JBJ ATO to beep when in action.

agreed, I think I'll be going with the ATO by JBJ. Not hearing any complaints here.

That's what I went with, and I have zero complaints. It's good quality and I have heard the best in it's price range.

You will need to be creative with getting one of the sensors in the back filtration and you can go with a the aqulifter pump to pump water into you tank.

I say aqulifter because you don't want a big pump like mine since it's easier to to place regular airline hosing in your setup.

There is no need to have it pump up rapidly; only draw back is you might have to disable the alarm as it will not go off untill you pump is full again.

Mine sounds for about 5 seconds and shuts off afterwords.
