Anyone in Canberra AU?

Hi, I'm gonna be going to ANU (The Australian National Uni) Next week to start college.

Just wanted to know if anyone knows where i can get reefer stuff there or anywhere in Australia for that matter.

Hoping to start a 2.5-5 gallon when i get there, if my landlady allows. If i can find a TruVu like mike's, it'd be perfect. (Fantastic tank, BTW)

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hi mihkaail,

Nice that you are going over seas to study. I cannot imagine such a nicer area to study in other than Australia. I don't think you will have any problem finding multiple places in the land down under for reef stuff.

I think that's like a heaven for aquatics. Listen, I took down my Tru Vu 3.5 and will not be using it. I can sell it to you if you like, I only owned it for 2 months.

I took it down in favor of a bigger tank. I purchased another 12 gallon JBJ and placed it in my bedroom.

The tank comes with the aquafilter and the coralife 18 watt 50/50. The only thing I kept from it was the 50 watt heater.

I have all the original boxes with instructions and warranty cards. I did get rid of the black canopy on top since it doesn't fit with the coralife light.

If you are interested in this small setup you can have it for $40.00 for all three items plus you pay for shipping before you go out to Australia.

You can buy the tank brand new with black canopy for $49.99, then the Coralife runs $39.99 and the Aguafilter runs about $20.00.

Hi Mike,

I'd really like to take up your offer but i'm living it Singapore and the shipping alone would cost about double the cost of the setup. pity though.

I cant believe you think australia's a good reefing place! here in Singapore, i buy liverock at about USD 1.50-1.80 a pound. zoo rocks with approx 150-200 zoos costs about USD 5.20-5.35 while a large hammer or frogspawn goes for between USD 11 and 18 depending on colour.

Well, cant exactly complain, i'll be going there anyway. Thanks for the offer though.

Cheers,

mihkaail, cool to have ye on this board.

I know on RC there a few AU reefers, but I don't know if they are close to ANU.

Had a few friends over there, but they were no where close to ANU.

Singpore huh, so you also into online gaming? Sorry, sterotype there. Just meet a lot of people from Singpore through Diablo 2, then even more from the blog Xanga. Seems like quite a few of them, decided to go to AU for college. Why is that anyway?

Hi all

Sorry for such a late reply Narkon. And, nope, unfortunately not really into online gaming. Anyway; in Singapore, guys have to do national service (NS) before going to college. At 18 years of age, Singaporean boys get drafted into the army for 2.5 years. To avoid that, i'm going to AU to get into college by age 17.5yrs. (small loophole) But i still gotta go to the army for the 2.5yrs after my degree but at least i'll have a degree and will be more likely to be promoted.

Hope that answers your question.

Cheers

Hi YMCA

I saw that site already. Hey, can i ask if stuff in AU is about the same price as stuff in the states(in AUD of course)?

What tanks are you running? i'm coming with about AUD250-300 to start my tank; do you think thats enough?

Thanks all.

Hey

Most things are around the same price. However some inverts like turbo and cleaner shrimp go for a lot
Cleaner shrim,p Cheap would be about $80 and that is really cheap at a LFS near me they go for $150.
Depends on wat type of set up u r looking to buy. for some prices check out www.aquariumproducts.com.au they have some really good stuff at a low price.
So far my set up has cost me around 500 but i made some major mistakes on the way and i have a MH
But if u shop around u may be able to start of with that much
