Magnesium is supposed to help to stabilize pH and Alkalinity. It also plays a role in Ca absorbtion/ precipitation. You should really need to dose it if you are doing regular weekly ~20% water changes. Plus I have only seen it in LARGE 16 oz bottles, twice the size of the "normal" 8 oz bottles.

I personally recommend doing a water change of around 25% weekly. The more you change, the more traces you are replenishing. IMO, 10% just isnt enough. I personally change 50% of my total volume when I do water changes... usually 15 gallons of my total 30 gallons or so.

You just want to make sure that you get the temp/ph/salinty etc as close to the same as possible when doing the larger water changes. I think you'll see a difference.
