A somewhat educated newbie asks...

I'm ready to take the plunge, after many, many months of reading about nano reefs. I take this very seriously, and don't want to make any mistakes. I was hoping I could spell out what I was planning to do, and maybe someone could set me straight if I had something all wrong...

1. I want to buy a JBJ 6 gallon cube. (I've read a few postings talking about cracks in this brand of cube.) How does the 6 gallon cube look?

2. About 1 to 1.5 inches of live sand, with a few small live rocks. (Not much will fit in here, I'm thinking.)

3. Add water, test, test, test, cycle, cycle, cycle... until it's stable, anywhere from 2-6 weeks. Am I likely to see any goodies popping out of my rocks??

4. Then, since this is a small cube, I don't want to overcrowd. What I'm interested in adding is snail, hermit crab, soft low-light corals, and maybe one teeny tiny little fish (something that doesn't grow beyond 2.5 to 3 inches in length). The most important aspect of this little reef for me is that I want a PEACEFUL reef. I don't want to put in anything that's likely going to eat something else.

5. I know pretty well which snails to choose, which hermit crabs, which fish are good beginner fish, but I don't know enough yet about low-light corals. I like the soft ones that flow with the water. I would really appreciate recommendations here. I am using the standard lighting that comes with the cube, so I can't add anything that needs a lot of light, right?

Well, thanks for taking the time to read my post. I appreciate it very much. I bow to your expertise... :maitre

I am not too sure on the 6 gallon jbj but if memory recalls those are not the ones with the craking issues

I personally would say make it 2 inches to help with the rock stability . I would go with like 3 -4 lbs rock and as you add stuff that is on live rock rubble to make up the rest

you are on track here and to answer the goodies you very well may see something show up

Cant help here either I dont know enough about their stock lighting tho from my personal experience most stock lights are not enough for most corals but fine for Fish Only With Live Rock refered to as FOWLR
