I was able to catch it and correct it... Anyway read on...
I've recently noticed a flaw with my whisper 10 filtration system with my size tank. The filtration system itself is fine, but apparently there is a little tube that connects with the intake system and well since the tank isn't that big, I can't put that piece on, and that's the essential piece to keep any living things out of there. Well I thought I'd be able to skate by without using it, but I was wrong!
I've lost my yellow gumdrop as it sucked him up and he got stuck and kinda clogged my pump. When I turned it off to clean the filters after a water change, he plopped out of the tube and back into the tank all curled up. I was like, aww might have been a coincidence... again I was wrong, doh!
Today I do a head count in my lil tank and find 1 sexy and 1 blue neon goby...where is sexy # 2? I put some mysis in there and see if they all come out, sure they did, but, no sexy #2. I decided to lift the top of the filter top, and who is there to my suprise? sexy #2. Sexy is just chillin on the white sponge w/ that carbon inside. He was like eating particles from it, I pulled up on the filter and the current got stronger and the current made sexy flow back with the river into the tank again. *it's fine*
That was the last draw, I was ready to implement a solution and I came up with the following... There is like a fishnet type thing where the ceramic rings are held in that came with the JBJ 12 gallon, and since my g/f isn't using that anymore, I cut a piece of that off, got a rubber band (those that come with the bags when you buy a fish or coral) I tied it real good and it's working very effective I have to say. The fishnet is just big enough to let particles flow through with out adding restriction or clogging.
I'll see how that works for me, hopefully no more incidents. Anyway just thought I would share my experience, laterz.
