I have 70w MH Viper light and its has been doing fine intill the other night, it cut on and ran for about 10min then shut off , and then starts to restart itself and cut back on run for several minutes and cut back off and repeats this. I checked the connections and checked the bulb see if it was loose..everything seems to be fine. What could be causing this to shut off/on like this? Could the bulb be on its way out or something wrong with ballast? Light has only been running for about 1 month... please help!!

I bought this setup from nanotuners and only have been running light for 1month now. I emailed them and will call tomorrow to see if they know what may be wrong and see if they can help me on this issue b/c i need a light asap! this sux! I hope they " Nanotuners" will be able to help me on this issue!

Thanks!

I have had lights do that when the bulb is near the end of its useful life before but with it only being a month old I am not sure.

Is there a thermal shut-off built into the ballast?? Maybe the ballast is getting too hot and is kicking itself off?? I cant say I have ever heard of that berfore but maybe this ballast is different.

Do what you must but start off with the cheapest repair first. The bulb sounds most likely then the ballast. Have you contacted the manufacturer to troubleshoot it? They might be able to explain what is going on better than 'wild-ass guessing' it and spending more money than you need to.

I understand about issues during the holidays. I've had to order equipment right before Christmas and then again right before New Years...still waiting on shipping confirmation on the last order.

JBJ responded to my email, said they will replace the bulb under warranty. I guess they are thinking its the bulb not the ballast?? since that is what they sent me in the email. we shall see!

Hopefully that will take care of the problem, especially since you are getting the bulb under warranty. Good luck.

THANKS! I asked them if they are just guessing or they know for sure its a bulb? They replied said very rare for their ballast to go bad, said they had problems like this with their older bulbs "which i guess i got " said they have new bulb out which is much better?? I hope this fixes my prob.
Thanks all!

Glad to hear that you hopefully have a fix coming soon. I'm still waiting on shipping confirmation from Danner on my pump cover

IMO....they should have replaced both under warranty to nip the problem with no worries...

I test circuit breakers and transformers at work and it could just as easliy be the ballast. I hope it works out to be the bulb, but I would still give it a good testing by burning the bulb away from the tank for a few more hours than it would burn during the day to be safe. Ya don't want to get 3 months down the road and find out it wasn't the bulb but the ballast......then no warranty

good point! i'm sure if not the bulb i'm sure it will continue to do what its doin cutting off/on. It starts to do it not even few minutes after it cuts on. So if i replace bulb and continues then i know its the ballast and not bulb issue. i will def put it to the test! wish me luck!
