i had the money, and i plan to upgrade in the future to a bigger tanks so i just bought a 150 watt 14k mh system from illuming for my 5.5gallon tank.

finally got the lights yesterday, put them into my modified speaker cabinet and put paper towels over the tank to cut the light down... 2 hours today, maybe 2 hours and 15 mins tomorrow.. etc.. remove some paper towels after a week.

current inhabitants are:
ocellaris clown
peppermint shrimp
5 blue legged hermits
3 turbo snails
one mushroom
branch of zoos
4 headed torch

i am in college so i collect stuff at the end of every semester that i think i may be able to use later.. before this it was holding my NES and the speakers for my surround sound that i havent used yet.

i can take pics later when the light is off of everything i did... but basically i took a shelf out to make the tank sit lower from the light. painted the inside flat white, drilled holes in the top to let heat out. and attached a back to it.

as soon as the acclimation is done i am going to attach a front with hinges so i can get in there when i need to, but block all the excess light when i dont need to get in there.

done acclimating.. moved some corals around to get them better lighting for their needs... mushroom is off to the side out of direct light, torch is dead center under the MH.

the new lights have actually caused the torch to start a new head, its splitting one of its current heads into two and the whole thing looks a whole lot larger in general. hopefully the zoos will grow and spread faster now, if not idk how much longer ill keep that branch... they are cute but growing too slowly for me to appreciate them. Also considering sending a razor blade down the center of my mushroom because its "foot" is stuck to two different rocks and i know if i split it with a razor it should make two identical shrooms.

ill get some pics tomorrow after the lights come on and they open up again..

Wow, this thread is sure to be watched closely. I would think that everything you place into this tank is going to Bloom! :) Very nice!

i treat with nano reef part A and B... 2 drops per gallon per day... and it has calcium, iodine, etc... they are growing, but a little too slowly for me... i noticed the torch was attacking them though, so they are pushed as far to the left side as possible now, and the torch has been moved and inch or two right... only one polyp is still semi-closed...

Nice hitchhiker you lucky duck . Our stores blast the stuff so you get pthhh(makes rasberry sound ) free . That stuff you are dosing r00on is that for the 10 gallon that you are dosing ? Just curious I may end up looking to dose to get my stuff to grow.....a bit quicker

i dose that in my display... the 10 gallon will get it too eventually.. the 10 gallon is actually a fuge/grow out tank for the 5.5... im hooking up a HOB overflow and running water between the two... so itll be around 13 gallons of water volume between the 2 and itll share everything..

i cant dose the 10 yet because there is no flow.. i have an order with a minijet606 and a new 75 watt heater on its way... hopefully by the time it comes next week ill have my hob overflow from the guy i asked to build it so it can all be hooked up.. im going to try and leave them about 4 feet apart so i can see them both, but if the pump cant make it horizontally 4 feet and a foot or so up then ill move my TV over and have them one next to the other and just 1 foot up...

HI roomac i was using for a while that aditive A & B and nothing great happend then i had a chat with n3m3s1s (reefer for almost 10years) and told me that does things are not that good cause you are not sure how much of everything you are putting in your tank and is true all the things you need in 2 way mmmm really doubtfull so i stop using it and im using other stuff and seems that my corals are getting more color and shrooms are splitting alot but that was he's point of view and mine too cause i see better quality in corals with things im dosing know than with A&B and like HOTERHEAD mentioned iodine will help alot with the coral color...

and well there hasnt been a topic of what everyone dose and for some people this thing is better than that and so on.

and well i just dose only tropic marin bio-calcium,tropic marin bio-magnesium,kent marine lugol's solution (iodine) & every water change kent marine superbuffer dkh(specially formulated ph buffer & alkalinity or kh builder designed to adjust the ph and build kh)
