set up last Sat with 20 lbs live sand getting about 15 lbs cured live rock. I did not modify anything. Once the cycle is complete I want to put in some stock I have in a 30gal tank. Can this size support a green carpet anemone with two common clowns?

Hello! From own experience, it might be a good idea not to introduce the carpet anemone to a recently set up tank. I also have a 24 gal nano-cube. Since I was using sand and rock from a tank that had been running for almost two years, I decided to introduce the corals, anemone and the clown one day after seting up the tank. Big mistake I lost the anemoneand almost lost the yellow stripes clown. Good luck on your new setup! Post some pics. I will really like to see them.

Thanks for the reply. I am sorry I was not very clear. I do plan on waiting. I was questioning because I see how most people have done a lot of modifications to their nano-cubes. I am not very mechanically inclined and will propably destroy the hood if I have to start cutting it up. Just adding the heater makes the one little cutout full. With the heater power cord and the pump power cord.
It sounds like the turn over rate for the factory pump is not good enough. I thought I could get away with adding a power head for better circulation but it sound like the entire filter set up is not good enough and was probably really for freshwater set ups. I read the on going article started by steelhealr about how that tank was set up. In that article he mentioned that the manufacture was working on a skimmer that would fit in the second chamber but I could not find anything that they ever did that. He turned it into refugium. I am hoping to make this more or less a dedicated tank for the carpet and clowns plus a clean up crew for the sand. Also I have another question what is the best scratch free method for cleaning the acrylic?

we used on our acrylic the scrub and toss white side only we just cut a small piece and used that but just remeber the blue side will scratch on the out side we used eye glass cleaner with the the towels that you can get for them but dont spray directly on the tank wet the cloth wipe down the out side and buff with dry cloth since eye glasses are usually plastic the stuff made for them wont ususally scratch

Unless you're running a modded light setup on your cube I don't think that the 72w of pc lighting is going to be enough for a carpet. Everything I've read on the forums, and in books states that they're a very high-light needing animal.

I read alot of people upgrade to a compact mh. But the stock lighting is ok for slowly adding the liverock and cycling correct

Yep. It'll be fine for quite a bit, but it's a bit low for any anemones, much less a carpet...I honestly don't think carpets are great candidates for even modded nano tanks. They get huge, and do so pretty quickly.

BTA's not a true carpet is probably your best choice, a 24 gal "dedicated tank for the carpet and clowns plus a clean up crew for the sand" although a bit small would make a nice display - key here of course is the word "DEDICATED". Be sure to check compatability as not all clowns host in all anemones. And depending on the clean up crew and the anemone some may become lunch. A 150 - 175 W metal halide pendent would probably be your best choice. Also be sure to pay attention to the adult size of your choosen clown species too. IMO.

Ok new plan let the nano cycle. I tested this morning and nothing. Of course thats was only 36 hrs with the rock in. I just have no idea with cured rock how the cycle works. But after I see a spike then zeros again I would like to use it as temp home for the carpet and clowns while I break down the other tank. Take out that old undergravel. Clean it and move it. Set it back up with a new hob refugium I ordered today After I can put some or every thing from the nano back in it. I am going to stay with same lighting more or less. The carpet has been fine for years under a phaser IV trying different combo of four tubes next I am trying 1 life glow, 1 power glow and two blue moons when I set it back up. I will be using a coraline super skimmer rated up to 65Gals so may have to play with only so many hours a day. When I got it I was thing bigger tank but then discovered nano. So please what do you think?
