18 watts in 5.5 gallon enough light?

I am new to reef keeping, and I am starting on a 5.5 gallon nano reef. I just bought the Coralife Mini Aqualight, which has two 9 watt bulbs. I wanted ask some more experienced people whether they thought that would be enough light to keep some soft corals, mushrooms, maybe a shrimp and some crabs, etc. It seems like it works well, but I wasn't sure if I should bump it up a little with some small fluorescent lights from Home Depot or something. Hope someone can help me out. Thanks!

Welcome to Nanotank :gh: .
I would think that 18W would be okay for mushrooms in a 5.5 but you'd be pushing it with anything else. You will be pretty limited as to what else you can really put in there.

I've got 32X2 CSL retros PCs on my 5.5 and I think it cost me about $100 or so to do. I have no limit really as to what I can put in there now. Good luck and keep us updated.

I will agree. For what you listed that light will be cool but for anything beyond that a better system like what DJCONN mentioned would be needed.
