After the demise of my much beloved 30 reef......

I thought I would start a new one.

FTS w/ Halides on.

FTS w/PCs only.

Closer shot FTS

Just a couple of the inhabitants.

The tank is a ViaAqua 18gal glass that I picked up at a local LFS for $150. It came with the stock lighting (which did not suffice for me), and a CPR BakPak skimmer.

I'll post more details tomorrow. Stay tuned

Gee, Thanks for all the nice comments.

A few particulars.
The tank has been up and running since 8/23. I got a head start on the cycling 'cause I used some rock from my defunct 30 in addition to a few pieces of Tonga branch. Only took about 2 weeks for all readings to hit zero.

There's prolly about 15lbs of rock in addition to 20 lbs of sand. I currently use the BakPak skimmer, although I'm seriously considering changing when I design and construct a sump/'fuge. (I really don't like all the junk hanging in the tank, and since I feed heavily daily, the BakPak is just not cuttin' it.)

I add kalk (actually Mrs. Wages) through my DIY ATO, dose CombiSan and Reef Plus twice a week and adjust my Mag, Iodine, and Strontium as needed. 5gals water changes are done about every ten days, or when the corals don't look happy whichever comes first. I have to clean the BakPak then too...sheesh... what a PITA that is.

Current lighting consist of 40w Act 03, 40w 50/50 and 70w 20K MH. Growth has been pretty good so far although I've always been a firm believer in "can't have too much light" so I'm planning on changing to a 14K 150W and switching the PC's to 7100K.

Inhabitants consist of a handful of crabs, Cerith, Astrea, Nassarius snails, two percs (Benny & Joon), a Cowrie that was a hitchhiker in my 30, a big a$$ brittle star that loves all the nooks and crannies & more bristleworms than I want.

Current corals are, branching hammer, frog spawn, torch, cup and chili coral, 'shrooms, Blasto Wellsi and merletti frags, two kinds of caulestra, numerous zoa frags and a blue sponge. O... there's also a small toadstool, encrusting montipora, and a couple o' small echnio frags.

Phew, that seems like a lot. Just think what I can shoehorn in with a sump.... :)

Anyway...until I get a new camera, or my skills improve with this one, you'll just have to tolerate these slightly unfocused pics:

Bad shot of one frag of pink Zoas. I can't seem to get the color right in my camera. I actually have four pieces of these.

Once again, the true color alludes me. These, in the back, are rich purple w/ a red ring. The light colored ones are white centered. Also shown are some light blue with orange centers and one of the small Echnio frags.

This is really a neat rock. The green ones really pop out under Actinic.

These are on the rock with the neon green and orange/red ones. I'll need to find a way to remove them' cause they seem to be taking over!
