What kind of filtration do you have on your tank? What do you want to keep in your tank besides a crab? What kind of crab is it?

i hav observed my tank closely, it is 30cm wide, 29 cm high, and 13 cm deep. crab is a reef crab which is all i kno of him, he appeared in my dads reef one day out of a rock, he has a beige, brown camo mix, and is the size of a grown ups thumbnail. i hav 3 fist size pieces of live coral, 1 of which has 2 bits of aptesia, i also mite get a piece of jewel anenome from my dads tank.
as far as i kno, there is no filtration system, jus the built in pump, but i intend to change 50% of the water by hand each week.

What kind of light do you have on the tank? Do you plan on keeping any corals in the tank or just the crab and rock? Personally I think that if you have access to water from your fathers tanks, and you're keeping the bio-load low then you don't really need a filtration system. I would suggest doing 3-4 10-20% water changes a week instead of 1-2 50% ones though. It's just less a little less of a shock to the tank. IMO the only reason to do a 50% water change on ANY tank is because of a known imbalance that you're trying to fix in a hurry.

Just my two cents,

Brian

okay, i havnt changed the water yet, so ill only remove 20% later, the only thing apart from the crab an rock, is maybe an anenome, i hope that wont do any damge, since its free

You can keep small fish..........that is it. But a fish will raise bio-levels. With proper water changes, it should not be a problem.

With that light you're probably not really going to be able to keep much in the way of corals. Maybe a small sun-coral frag. Ironically with their name, they're not photosynthetic, and don't reqire anything when it comes to lighting. Maybe a small mushroom or two. As for fish, I'd suggest something along the lines of a citron goby, or even smaller like a neon cleaner goby. There's also some gobie's that seem to be kinda seasonal here that are just labeled red-headed gobies that are very small. Clear body, with a metallic, neon red spot or stipe on the top of their head.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

well that link doesn;t work... with NO (normal output) lighting you can only keep fish which i wouldnt recommend anyways because of the small size of your tank. I'm guessing by your dimensions that it's only about a 2.5 gallon tank, which typically is 33.0 x 15.2 x 20.3 cm You need to do some reading and research and get a beter understanding of this hobby before you really get much more into it. has the tank cycled yet? what are you parameters? you need to be more detailed with the information you give. How long has the tank been set up? yuou said you have a pump... what kind? we need more info if you want any help.

I just asked what your dad has because if he's doing good in the hobby you might want to ask him some of these questions. If I were in your place I'd rather take advice from someone that I can see with my own eyes is successful in the hobby. Not that anyone here isn't or anything.
