10g Nano lighting question

I want to keep mostly Shrooms and Polyps, along with some other corals.

Will the polyps and shrooms be ok under 52Watts of PC in my 10g?

How many watts/gallon should I be shooting for?

Hi Grysinski,
50 PC watts would be just fine for a 10 gallon for keeping shrooms, GSP and other softies. What kind of light is it? Who is the manufacturer? The watts per gallon rule really doesn't apply for nanos.

Sylvania doesn't make lighting that's appropriate for reef tanks. At least not that I've ever seen or heard of. 24000k, is also not a standard kelvin rating for a reef tank bulb. 6500k, 6700k, 8800k, 10000k, 14000k, 20000k, are the normal ratings for bulbs that are beneficial to reef life. As far as I know there's no such thing as a 24000k PC bulb. I've looked at 3 different companies that specialize in aquarium lighting to double check.

It's very likely that the light setup you have will not support coral.

Watts per gallon isn't a very helpful guideline when it comes to marine tanks. Normally I'd say that 50w or more of PC lighting would be great for what you want to do, but it has to be the appropriate type of lighting.
Sticking ten 110w incandescent lightbulbs above your 10g tank yields you 1100w, or 110w per gallon. But we don't use these, because incandescent lights don't put out the right wavelength of light, and they don't penetrate into the water column. Normal Output or NO flourescent lighting isn't adequate for reeftanks for the same reason. Par value or Photosynthetically Active Radiation is what's truly important, and the higher PAR values that are needed by even the easiest corals, do require more specialized lighting than freshwater tanks, or fish-only marine tanks.
