102 watts of power JBJ Nano Cube Deluxe...

Hey reefers,

I placed my order today, 102 watts of power should come in in 2 weeks. Chris the owner of nanocustoms.com sold me my 1st upgrade, 78 watts of power, but because of a flaw design in the canopy of the deluxe my tank got too hot.

I talked to Chris and he called JBJ and found out that the majority of their customers were complaining without having done any upgrades. So JBJ released the special edition hood which Chris is building my new 102 watts of juice onto.

He has tested it for heat and it outperforms the standard 48 stock lights by running 6 degrees cooler, now that is efficiency on the new design of the hood and Chris's engineering.

Here is a link so you reefers can see what Mr Mike is about to get in 2 weeks:

And here are some pictures of my current setup of 78 watts of power, I never did get the chance to show DJconn underneath my hood:

geeze mike, you insane

The way you keep upgrading your lights, you had might as well get a bigger tank, lol. Do I smell the 80 gallon coming back? hehe. Well good luck with your lights mod, hope it rids your heating problem, but I really don't know how something so high in power will produce less heat, even if it has ways of cooling it. We have that small ass tank, but I guess that dude from nanocustoms must have really thought it through. Let us know how it develops.

Thanks for the pics Mike. I'm SERIOUSLY considering one of these setups on a 12 gallon cube just like you. I just like how it looks so clean and neat.

Is Chris providing that upgrade for free?

SWEET! Keep us up to date on what your temp is like with the new hood/light upgrade. I really like the look of these tanks.

Hey guys,

I will certainly keep you guys posted on my updates. Dragon, no I will not get a bigger tank even though the power of the lights goes up and I will tell you why.

As you increase size in tank you acquire the need for even more watts of lighting. So my 102 watts of power would not even be sufficient for the next tank by JBJ, 24 gallon cube.

You see, if your tank stays relatively small and you have nice high output onto your tank you can be in the safe zone for nice corals, and a clam. I also benefit from simple water changes, they are not hard to do, I hated keeping up with my 80 gallons it's a lot of work.

If you look at my break down I went from the original cube 24 watts, to 48 watts the deluxe and then 78 watts of upgrade, and hopefully 102 watts final.

There are really only 10 gallons of water in our cube so lets do simple math:

Original Cube:

24/10= 2.4 watts of power per gallon (unknown reefers) :(

Nano Cube Deluxe:

48/10= 4.8 watts of power per gallon (Dragon79)

78/10= 7.8 watts of power per gallon (Mike)

102/10= 10.2 watts of power per gallon (Mike in 2 weeks) :D

And just to let DJ know, Chris gave me full credit for what I had purchased and he's not charging me for shipping nor a core deposit for my upgrade. But there is a difference in price since he gives me items I don't have.

Mike
