    I have a new tank!

It's been running about 3-4 days since the above pic and my water quality is holding steady, I used cured rock and water from the rock tank at the LFS. I did add a bunch of stuff all at once, but they're all tiny things, and it didn't cause a spike or anything: Amm: 0 Nitrites: 0...

    I have a new tank!

mike, et al... the 36 watt won't fit my tank, i'm sure of it... i have very little room as it is even with the "stilts" on the lights. here are some updated pics... i put some livestock in. it's about 2 days later and everything seems to be doing ok so far*. *my little...

    My pico

Now that my "melody" or "rhythm" or whatever it is is up and running, I'm concerned about water movement.... Specifically, I have two tiny Azoo Palm filters (same size as red sea tiny) running, but i feel that when I have them going full blast it's too much current.... You have three...

    Software for tracking parameters???

ReefCon is pretty cool so far, just started using it... very straightforward. -dave-

    Thank You and Cycling question.

I really wouldn't reccomend feeding it too much meaty food right now, it's going to create a ton of waste.... wait til you have an established tank for that. What you just fed them ought to be good for at least a week. -dave- p.s. it's normal for some ammonia tests to coagulate... my...

    Software for tracking parameters???

I just keep track of stuff in Excel.... i.e. dates I add new stuff, parameters when I test, etc. That way if anything goes crazy, I have a record. -dave-

    Thank You and Cycling question.

In theory, what your LFS told you is correct. However, you can always expect SOME loss of life (read: waste) during transport home from the store, and or during setup. Before you add anything else, make sure your ammonia and nitrites are at 0ppm. I'd test your water after 3-4 days like they...

    My pico

Thanks Mike, but I'm not sure as 7.5" is pushing it... the little legs don't give quite enough clearance to go OVER the filters so on second thought, I'll prolly just stick with the 18W, it seems pretty bright. The tank is only 7 inches deep on average, so the intensity has to be pretty darn...

    I have a new tank!

I like that clean look too, but I always end up with so much S*** all over from my rock and stuff. -dave-

    My pico

Hey Dragon... what clip on do you use? I'm using the CurrentUSA 18w Satellite, and I have it raised up on it's stilts (CurrentUSA part #1000) and might have room for another light... I'd love to get another 18W on there. -dave-

    I have a new tank!

(note to reefcentral users, this is some repeat info) First here's some links for those interested: Red Sea (Azoo?) Art Deco Aquariums Lights - Current-USA Satellite 18W: 50/50 PC w/really cool lunar LED light built in Heater - Hydor Theo 25W: seems really good so far, i'm impressed...

Can somone detail how to make one of these float switches for me? I'm confused as to how they actually switch on/off without the contacts being submerged in water... -dave-

Thanks for clearing that up... by the way Dragon, what kind of filtration/circulation are you using on that pico? Is it heated? Erm... I guess i see the heater and Aquaclear or something... but are you running any media in your filter? -dave-

    My pico

I saw your tank on reef-central and it was enough to inspire me to get back into the hobby, so I owe you some thanks... I'm starting up a pretty much identical tank to yours, but since I don't have another tank to take water and rocks from, I'm using my LFS which has really decent rock/sand...

updated pics of my pico 03.05.05

That's sad, that galaxia has a really nice color. I've been out of the hobby for a few years, and it used to be that picking up a shoddy-looking frag (no offense) like that would mean the frag would just die off in a couple months. This may be a silly question, but is it possible these days to...

    2.5 update

Hmm... well, everyone has cyano at some point or other... how's the flow in the tank? Often times increasing circulation will get rid of cyano, even in bigger outbreaks of the stuff. What's your water quality like? Nitrates? Phosphate? -dave-

That frogspawn is gorgeous... are you concerned about the sweeper tentacles? I want to try some in my 1gal too but i'm afraid of crowding out other corals... -dave-
