I just keep track of stuff in Excel.... i.e. dates I add new stuff, parameters when I test, etc. That way if anything goes crazy, I have a record. -dave-

In theory, what your LFS told you is correct. However, you can always expect SOME loss of life (read: waste) during transport home from the store, and or during setup. Before you add anything else, make sure your ammonia and nitrites are at 0ppm. I'd test your water after 3-4 days like they...

Thanks Mike, but I'm not sure as 7.5" is pushing it... the little legs don't give quite enough clearance to go OVER the filters so on second thought, I'll prolly just stick with the 18W, it seems pretty bright. The tank is only 7 inches deep on average, so the intensity has to be pretty darn...

Hmm... well, everyone has cyano at some point or other... how's the flow in the tank? Often times increasing circulation will get rid of cyano, even in bigger outbreaks of the stuff. What's your water quality like? Nitrates? Phosphate? -dave-
