Another question: Is the sand bed too shallow? Like should I add more or just keep it the way it is? Also what do you recommend that I should add first? Just a clean-up crew, or could i go for some coral?

Mabey the thermometer is broken. What I would try to do is turn off the heaters if you have one running. Once it gets back down to the temp that you want turn the heater to that setting and monitor temperature. You could also do a gradual water change with cooler water.

i read the article before and it seemed like they didn't really know if distilled water is/was ok. I'll think i'll be fine though. how long do you think I should let it cycle before adding anything? Live rock and sand were from a 55 gallon tank and are already cured.
