Thanks, Tony. I use Canon 20D bodies and Sigma EX 50 and 180 mm macro lenses, with and without extension tubes. Gary

    Salinity / Specific Gravity

Are you suggesting by this statement that you've been doing water changes with plain RO water? If so, that would explain the lower sg/salinity level, assuming your original mix was higher. Top off should be with RO water, but water changes should be with salt water mixed to a specific gravity...

    Corals at Ocean's Floor

Got a chance to spend a couple of hours working on my aquarium photography skills at Ocean's Floor, an LFS in Lake in the Hills, IL. Thanks to Dave for the hospitality. His tanks are always pristine and the selection vast, so all I had to do was line up the shots. This is a new type of...

    Refractometer

The calibration temp should be stated on the hydrometer. I have a large one, too, and it has served me well and accurately for years. It's calibrated at 77 F. If you're at 79, I'm not sure if that gives a higher or lower sg reading. I doubt it would make the kind of difference you're...

    Refractometer

What is the temp of your tank and the temp at which your float hydrometer is calibrated? By float hydrometer, I assume you mean one of those glass-bulb devices, not a swing-arm hydrometer. Also assuming there are no air bubbles on the float hydrometer? I use a float hydrometer, but make my water...

    Bak Pak airstone mod pump

I'm trying to do the airstone modification to my Bak Pak. I bought a Coralife limewood airstone but am not sure how big of an air pump I need to drive the stone. What air pump are people using?

    What is this?

Use Joe's Juice or a thick paste of kalkwasser. Some also have success squirting them with hot (almost boiling) RO/DI water. Kill them off as soon as you see them or they will infest your tank and become a real headache. Peppermints are also an option, but will not always eat the large ones. Gary

My current favorite for corals is Ocean's Floor. Beautiful tanks and a large selection, particularly of zoas and SPS. http://www.oceansfloor.net/ Gary

    A couple of polyps

An adequate shot of a yellow polyp and then a common one for which I've yet to find an ID. Obviously not looking in the right place. Would appreciate help. Gary

    Two shots from my 20L

Thanks, Trogdor. These were shot with a Sigma EX 180 macro lens and extension tubes on a Canon 20D body, tripod, remote release, mirror lockup. Available tank light was used. Gary

New member with lunar light question

Hello, everyone. I'm new to nanotank.com, but a veteran aquarist. About four years ago I had six tanks totaling 300 gallons, one freshwater and the rest reef. The demands on my time changed, tanks were broken down and sold, and I entered a three-year period in which I "maintained" a 20L reef and...
