    First Nano Effort...

This site tends to be much friendlier...But sometimes when you're having an emergency, a lower-traffic site may not get you answers as quickly as you need them. Or you may come up with questions about things that hasn't been seen by a site with a smaller amount of members. RC being the...

    First Nano Effort...

If you look at the number of detailed responses I've given on the site, you'll realize I'm not offended by noobs asking questions. Even questions that have been answered many, many times. I'm just pointing out that the search function, because you don't seem to be aware of it. Like I said...

    Majano Anemone

I had the same sort of situation with tulip anemones....They're colorful, and I didn't notice them reproducing very fast....Then over the course of a month they really went crazy. I'm using joes juice to control them now. B

    Majano Anemone

Yep... They're considered pests. They have a strong enough sting to irritate or kill some types of corals, and they can reproduce quickly. I've seen tanks that have a ton of them very quickly, and other tanks where there was only one or two for months and months. B

    Clams in a nano?

Mike, When you feed the phyto, you should turn off all your pumps to give the clam more time to filter it out. Give it an half hour or so, then turn them back on. You also won't need to feed as much doing it this way. ED, It's not a good idea. Derasas would probably do ok in a DX...

    My fairly new 6G

Cool, as long as you're keeping an eye out for it. I mainly noticed mine doing it at night. I very rarely ever saw it extend them when the lights were on. Have you checked to see if it's doing it once the lights are off? B

The reason that 290gph is just getting by in the cubes is that there is one pump that's acting as return, and current. Generally you want your return pump to be able to cycle your entire tanks water volume at least 10x an hour. So with a 24g tank, a 290gph pump is sufficient for this purpose...

From RC's faq pages. "Can I use tap or well water in my tank?" You can, and people do, but you may be asking for trouble down the road. Water is corrosive and in traveling through the pipes to your house it may pick up iron and copper from the plumbing. Many water suppliers add phosphates...

    My fairly new 6G

That looks awesome. Good job. You'll want to keep an eye on the galaxia, as it has a powerful sting, and long sweeper tentacles. B

Can anyone ID this white "algae" looking stuff --

Sorry. It could be some type of parasite of the plant...I was thinking it might be hydroids....It's just a bit difficult without a macro shot to see details. B

    Crab ID

aromano you probably have a crab from the caphyra family. Perhaps caphyra unidentata. It's associated with Xenia. But it's not clear if it eats it or not. http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/reefs/guam/gua ... mage2.html It could also be this one...

    Crab ID

A good general guideline is if it's a xanthid type crab and it's legs look hairy and the claw tips are dark colored it's not reef safe. B

    Sea Star is stuck

Linkias tend to be pretty delicate, and they require a long careful acclimation to survive. On top of that like sadie mentioned they're not really suitable for a 30g tank. That said, it will eat if it's healthy when it's ready. It's very possible that it's trying to hide because it's stressed...
