    Chemi-pure...

Hi Dragon, Apparently there is this huge controversy on best practices on biological filtration in a nano cube deluxe. Let me try to explain what I've learned in the last 2 weeks. JBJ says clearly on their instructions that if the tank is to be used as a reef tank only, remove the...

    Cleaner shrimp...

Trogdor, I was referring to the unusual amount of nitrate in the bag that came from the LFS. But like Incysor said, sitting that long in the bag renders it useless. I would go back and get a sample from the tank the shrimp came from. Good luck, Mike

    help!

Phishcy, The bottom red growth is a macro algae, I have it on two of my rocks. It doesn't grow too quickly but it does keep it's shape. My cleannng crew leave it alone for the most part. But the green leafy algae I don't have, wish I did, looks really healthy has a nice green to it. Mike

    Cleaner shrimp...

Trogdor, My suspiscion is that the high level of nitrates killed your skunk. Inveterbrates like corals cannot tolerate high levels of nitrates. Fish can handle it better but you are better off with lower levels in your tank especially if you are running a reef. I personally had 20 trates...

    Chemi-pure...

Thanks exile, I've ran it for 2 days and it's awesome. It keeps my tank crystal clear, better than regular cheap carbon that comes with the tank. I've noticed my corals are much larger, could it also be that it's because the bio balls and ceramic rings are gone? Plus I removed the old...

    Salifert results...

Incysor and gang, Thanks for the response, I can't believe the new test kit for calcium is off by 50 ppm. That royally sucks, since I paid a hefty price for there kits. I believe they were the best. They should let there LFS know and warn the consumer. I will call Salifert and ask them...

    Salifert results...

Hey guys, Here are my results on my testing: Specific gravity: 29 ppt Temperature: 79.1 F Ammonia: < .25 mg/L Nitrite: .025 ppm Nitrate: 10 ppm Calcium: 500 ppm I was concerned with my calcium level, is that too high. They say natural sea water is about 420-450. I'm...

Pico 1.5 future investment (pics inside)

Nice work dragon, When we last spoke I was mentioning that you want to place a really small heater in your pico. If the one you purchased is too bulky try this one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... 2035+62761 The price is great and it's really small, a new item out on the...

    Chemi-pure...

Hey Reefers, Anyone ever use chemi-pure in there nanos? I have removed my bio-balls and my ceramic rings in order to bring down my nitrates which are at 20 m/g. I have also removed the stock carbon that comes with the nano. I figure it's been almost 4 months and I need new carbon. So...

It's alive!!! 102 watts arrived... Check out the pics....

Hey guys, Can you believe it, I officially have 102 watts of lighting in my 12 gallon nano cube deluxe. That means 102 watts divided by 9.5 gallons that are H20 in this tank. That would give me 10.73 watts per gallon rule. That makes me a happy camper. I haven't gotten the chance to...

Pic of the week --- Fish

Steve, Flower pots are so pretty, but they do expand. You might try a very little one, but I would work on getting mushrooms in your nano for the color and the diversity that you are looking for. Mike

    Argh!! My poor green Ricordia!!

Wow, Dragon let me begin by saying that thanks to your ability to take pictures, I have identified the crab. In my opinion 90 percent of crabs are bad for a mini reef and only 10 percent are good. And let me tell you that according to your pic, you pulled out a good crab, let me explain...

    help me please

Okay, The deal with the 24 gallon is that it is limited to only 36 watts times 2 bulbs, so total is 72. You would think wow,,, 72 watts now thats a good amount for a 12 gallon tank,,, but not for a 24, if you want high end stuff. The 24 caters to reefers that want more space to add more...
